Bildungshaus Thadenstraße is part of Ganztagsschule Thadenstraße and is available to children, families, and neighbours in the neighbourhood. Its digital presence also had to be implemented with TYPO3 as part of the related relaunches. At the same time there was a distinct need around the house’s rooms.
The rooms were to be bookable and administrable through a system. The project therefore comprised two layers: an editorial website for the Bildungshaus and a digital tool for a concrete organisational process. Both layers had to be implemented within the same project frame.
The decision
I implemented the relaunch with TYPO3 and developed the room booking system specifically for the Bildungshaus. My responsibility therefore covers the CMS website and the custom software for booking and administration. Both components belong to the same project scope.
TYPO3 forms the technical base for the web presence. The custom tool maps the house’s particular process. The functional core of booking and administering rooms complements the editorial website with a custom application for the Bildungshaus.
The build
TYPO3 carries the public side of the combined system: information about the Bildungshaus, counselling, and rooms is managed there as editorial content. The CMS thus forms the relaunch base for the web presence.
The purpose-built room booking system adds a specialist process to this base. A booking must capture a room as its subject; administration needs a digital view of these bookings. These practical consequences follow directly from the named tool.
The build connects a standard CMS and custom development in one project. The website takes on public presentation, the custom tool the specific booking and administration need. This separation gives both tasks a clearly named technical responsibility. The case thus shows concretely where a relaunch goes beyond pure content pages.
In operation
What was delivered in 2021 was a TYPO3 website with the room booking system developed specifically for the Bildungshaus. The result is the shared technical foundation for the web presence as well as digital booking and administration of the rooms. Both project parts are thus implemented in one system scope.
At project close the role split of the two parts remains clear: TYPO3 carries the public relaunch, the custom software the particular room process. Website and custom tool together form the digital foundation delivered in 2021 for public information, concrete digital room booking, and internal administration of the rooms in the house.
