What is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). GEO is optimising content so that AI answer systems such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews understand, use and cite it. Classic SEO aims at rankings in the list of results; GEO aims to be part of the generated answer – as a named source.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is GEO – Generative Engine Optimization?

GEO makes content so clear, well-sourced and machine-readable that AI answer systems such as ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews can cite it. It adds to SEO: pages that answer questions directly, unambiguous details about your brand and structured data – on a clean technical base.

Does GEO replace classic SEO?

No. Without content that can be fetched, loads fast and gets indexed, and without clear details about your brand, GEO fails too. I steer SEO, SEA and GEO together and measure them with the same metrics.

How do you measure whether AI systems cite you?

With fixed sets of questions that I check regularly in AI search tools, plus URL inspection, structured-data validation and the development of organic and paid traffic – not only via classic rankings.

Who benefits from working on visibility?

Companies whose enquiries and reputation depend on being found – especially if your customers already research with ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews.

What does a website need to be cited in AI answers?

Clear definitions and FAQs, Schema.org, consistent details about your brand, server-side rendering, current facts with sources – and content that answers a question better than the competition.

Do you also handle Google Ads (SEA)?

Yes. SEA is part of the overall system: tracking, conversion setup and campaigns that carry the same topics and messages as SEO and GEO.
